Step into an elegantly rugged winter wonderland with a snowy Colorado cabin experience on 20 private acres in the heart of Colorado! This off-grid Rocky Mountain retreat promises an authentic escape, devoid of plumbing, solar energy, electricity, and cell phone service—though solar power is on the horizon. Embrace the charm of a hut trip, complete with an outhouse on site. It is an ideal for couples, family bonding, holiday escapes, weddings, or corporate retreats. Nestled between Ski Cooper and Camp Hale, the journey to your cozy haven is a delightful 20-25 minute snowshoe or peaceful snowmobile ride, where tranquility reigns in this “no wake zone” from the trailhead to the cabin and throughout the property. At an elevation of 10,100 feet, adventure awaits with abundant ski terrain to explore.
The quaint, minimalistic space is warmed by a wood burning stove and relies on a natural spring for water. It can comfortably sleep up to 6 guests, provided you manage the loft's warmth. An adjacent cabin offers a king bed in the loft with an unforgettable view for up to 2 additional guests if you desire a second retreat. The ambiance is set by candlelight, so headlamps are essential, along with portable batteries! This is a hut trip experience like no other!
If you revel in a backdrop that is uniquely tranquil and forested, continue reading! The cabins operate under hut trip principles, with a minimum stay of 2 to 3 nights. The notable distinction here is that while most hut trips involve arduous miles to reach your destination, this cabin offers a mere 20-minute stroll in and out, perfect for snowshoes or skins. Upon arrival, you can settle in quickly, and allow time to unwind, recalibrate, and embrace the serenity—perhaps bringing along a book to read or write!
Two toboggans are provided for your comfort, allowing for an easier return to your vehicle. Just be cautious when navigating back down with full toboggans, a heavy load can easily sweep you off your feet! For the adventurous, ski routes abound just beyond the back door, with ample gradient to maintain your momentum as you glide between the trees. Venture westward downhill, and you'll cross the famous Colorado Trail, leading to marked paths that wind North or South.
Amenities include a wood fire sauna, cold plunge...on the horizon will feature a a hot shower, anticipated for completion by late spring or early summer. In the meantime, if a shower is a must, a simple 15-minute drive south will take you to Leadville.
We've also partnered with a local Eagle County butcher shop to offer a delivery meal service for an additional fee, featuring hot or cold prepared meals or locally sourced meats and vegetables for your culinary endeavors. Alternatively, savor a meal at Mango's restaurant in Red Cliff, a quick 10-minute drive north along Highway 24, where you can bask in Colorado's breathtaking scenery along a designated scenic byway.
The captivating photos depict the cabin's allure, which spans approximately 380 square feet plus a loft, showcasing the kitchen and wood stove. Stay tuned for more details about additional cabins becoming available later in February. A key code will be provided upon reservation approval. Please note that the closest cell signal is at the public Wi-Fi at Ski Cooper, so consult your maps before embarking on your journey into the snowy Colorado tundra. With no neighbors for miles, this cabin is nestled in the serene embrace of The White River National Forest in Eagle County. Access requires snowshoeing or skinning into the property for about 20-25 minutes—half of which is flat and the other half a gentle climb. It’s an entry that even active elementary-aged children have enjoyed, leading to numerous viewpoints east of the cabin. Please read all descriptions thoroughly!
